Area 3 Report 6 November 2003 Area 3 comprises most of Georgia, including the following three sections: Atlanta Section: https://www.ieee-atlanta.org/ Central Georgia Section: https://www.ewh.ieee.org/r3/central_georgia/ Savannah Section: https://www.ewh.ieee.org/r3/savannah/ All of the sections have had excellent meetings and I encourage you to visit their respective websites for details. The Atlanta Section recently revised their bylaws to bring them up to date. Of note, is the IEEE requirement to identify the territory of the Section in the bylaws. The Atlanta bylaws identify their area using 3 digit zip codes while the Savannah Section uses counties to identify their area. We are in the process of coordinating the identifications to insure accuracy. The Savannah and Central Georgia Sections are beginning to work together to review their boundaries. The goal is to make it as easy as possible for every member to attend and participate in a Section Meeting. Most sections in IEEE will agree newsletter printing is a major expense. The Atlanta Section recently made a major move toward electronic distribution of news. The Savannah Section is also encouraging its members to request electronic distribution versus regular mailing to reduce costs. Both sections are making efforts to accommodate members that insist on hardcopies while still making every effort to reduce costs. I hope all of the sections in Area 3 will be well represented at the next Region 3 meeting in Atlanta. The next Area 3 meeting will be on Friday, 21 November 2003 at 8 pm. Please refer to the Region 3 online agenda for up to date time and location information. Everyone is welcome to attend and I hope to see you there. Respectfully submitted, Christopher R. Hardy Area 3 Chair
