Region 3, Since the last report, IEEE has released data showing how Membership Development growth in Regions 1-6 has become more of a challenge. I would like to encourage all Sections in Region 3 to make Membership Development one of your key goals for the rest of 2003. There are a number of programs available to help Sections with their membership campaign. A good reference for these programs can be found at, https://www.ieee.org/organizations/rab/md/index.html In addition, IEEE has provided a page full of all of the key Membership Development URLs at, https://www.ieee.org/organizations/rab/md/keyurls.html To improve communications about Membership Development, we are now hosting a monthly electronic conference for Section Membership Development Chairs and interested volunteers. The next electronic conference will take place on November 24 at 8:30 PM EST. Please let me know if you will be joining the conference and I will include you on the distribution list. A key Membership Development goal for 2003 is the elevation of members to Senior Member. Since September, Region 3 Sections have been participating in a Senior Member campaign. The goal of this campaign is to help Region 3 reach it's goal of 181 new Senior Members in 2003. Several hundred members have sent email asking questions and promising to start the upgrade process. The November 12 deadline is approaching for the final 2003 upgrade application submissions. Please check within your Sections and make sure that every potential new Senior Member has submitted their application and has the support of three references. Don't forget, there are Section financial incentives for upgrading your members. More information about the Senior Member program can be found at, https://www.ieee.org/organizations/rab/md/smprogram.html We developed a set of 2003 Goals and Objectives for Membership Development. Progress was made on most of these goals. Please review this list and let's start talking about what we can do for 2004. 2003 Goals and Objectives - Region 3 Membership Development 1 - Develop Student Transition Program Continuing 2 - Promote Senior Membership Upgrades Region 3 campaign is underway with a deadline of November 12 3 - Communicate to the R3 MD team with regular e-conf's e-confs are held monthly on the 4th Monday at 8:30 PM 4 - Membership Development Representative in every Section / Council 18 Sections have MD Reps, more promised in 2004 5 - Work with Section Representatives to contact members in arrears Arrears information was provided to every Section 6 - Develop Membership "Values" Kit Continuing 7 - Work with the Public Information Committee to increase R3 awareness of IEEE Continuing In closing I would like to remind every Section that the 2004 Membership Renewal program is underway. Please use your remaining 2003 Meetings and Newsletters to encourage and remind members to renew and continue being a part of the IEEE Network. Remember that a growing base of members is the foundation of the IEEE and everything that we want to do in Region 3. We need your help in keeping and increasing our base of members in Region 3. Thanks in advance for your help and I look forward to working with all of you to continue to build the Region 3 team. Lee Stogner R3 Membership Development
