Subject: Past Director's Report 11-03-03

As we prepare for our ExCom meeting via e-conferencing tonight and our
Region 3 Committee meeting in Atlanta on November 21 - 23, I take this
opportunity to file my final report as your current Past Director and
Officer of Region 3.

As I have reported in previous reports one of my assignments as Past
Director has been to act as Director Howard's emissary and regional
representatives to other regional units such as the North Carolina
Council, South Carolina Council, and Virginia Council. I think that I
have attended most of the meeting each council has had. I am happy to
report that these units continue to serve their respective Sections
and IEEE membership. I do not want to imply that they have not been
impacted by the down turn in employment of their membership or the
inability to find volunteers to fill leadership positions that has
faced all of IEEE. However, I feel that the present leadership has
done an outstanding job considering the problems we are all faced
with.

As I look back at the events over the last few months one particular
event that I will remember was the honor of presenting the Region 3
Dan Jackson Award to Dan on behalf of the region while he was still
with us. You will hear more about the Award during Reed Thompson's
tribute to Dan at our Atlanta meeting.

I would like to commend our Director Jim Howard for his excellent
leadership over the past two years. I appreciated the opportunity he
has given me to continue to serve our region.

I am looking forward to continuing to work with Director-Elect Bill
Harrison as he soon assumes the Region 3 Director position. I pledge
to him my support as he assumes this most difficult task.
