IEEE Richmond, Virginia Section Report - Section Activities September - November, 2003 Region 3 Meeting Atlanta, Georgia, 11/21/03 - 11/23/03 Richmond Section activities for the period between July and November, 2003 are listed below: 1. The executive board developed the program for the upcoming session, early in July. A spreadsheet was made available to all members detailing each monthÕs meeting date, program, and speaker (if known). This information was mailed in August with the September meeting announcement. All meetings are held at the Sheraton, Midtown, Richmond, VA. It is centrally located with easy access to the highway network in four directions. 2. In September, the season started off with a presentation about ÒAutoID as a Disruptive Technology Ð Issues and Opportunities.Ó The speaker, Mr. Randy Sweeney, of Phillip Morris USA gave an excellent talk about this subject. His expertise was phenomenal. The presentation sparked several questions and comments from the audience. 3. The October meeting attendance was in the middle thirties. The subject was ÒThe Design of Network Critical Physical Infrastructure (NCPI). The speaker was Mr. Kevin McCarthy, of the American Power Conversion (APC). Attendance was similar to that in September. 4. On November 6, the program involved remote control in buildings using Web techniques. The speaker was Mr. Brant Huddleston, vice president, strategic solutions for Tridium, Inc. The attendance was in the upper twenties. However, those who attended were pleased with the topic. 5. The section is proud of and closely working with the IEEE student branch at Virginia Commonwealth University. 6. The section started another IEEE student branch at Virginia State University. The application has been submitted and awaiting Region 3 approval. 7. Plans were underway to conduct a section Leadership Training Seminar in Richmond, September 27.
