IEEE Tallahassee Area Section Report October 2003 Officers: Chair: Bruce Harvey Vice-Chair: Thomas Baldwin Treasurer: Mark Weatherspoon Secretary: Helen Li Summary of Goals and Activities: This year the Tallahassee Section is focusing on greater interaction between the section and the two student chapters (Florida A&M University, and FAMU-FSU College of Engineering), and improving industry interaction. We are providing support for the senior design students to enter the SoutheastCon 2004 Hardware Competition. This will be the first time for the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering to enter the hardware competition. The section is providing seed money for the project and providing a preliminary design competition. We are trying to involve local industry engineers as judges in the competition. In addition we are planning a winter holiday social and 4 Ð 6 meeting with technical or career oriented topics. Recent Meetings: 10/30/2003: George F. McClure was the guest speaker on the topic: ÒTodayÕs Engineering Career Issues.Ó Business at the meeting included approval of updated bylaws, SoutheastCon 2004 Robotics Competition and general student chapter support. Attendance at the meeting included 4 members, 13 student members, and 7 non-members. 8/28/2003: Section Executive Committee Meeting. Attendance: 9 including representatives of the local student chapters. 5/22/2003: What is going on the StateÕs Back Office by Lawyer Fred Springer.
