To: Region 3 Executive Committee Region 3 Section Chairs CC: Dave Green From: Chip Dawson and Bill Hennen Subject: SoutheastCon 2004 Report SoutheastCon 2004 is coming, get ready, don't wait, make plans now to attend the premier event of the year within our Region. On behalf of our conference committee we invite you to attend another outstanding SoutheastCon. This year the conference is being held March 26-28 at the Marriott Downtown Hotel, Greensboro, North Carolina. As has been our tradition for more than thirty years SoutheastCon 2004 will feature a technical professional conference, student and faculty conference, and a regional conference over a three day period. The technical professional conference will include authors presenting original papers on all aspects of electrical, computer, and communications engineering that have not been published or presented elsewhere. It will also include Professional Development Seminars and tutorials on a variety of technical subjects. As in the past, the student conference will feature the Student Competition in hardware and software. Student teams from colleges and universities across the southeastern United States and Jamaica will compete to see who will win the first, second, and third place awards to be presented at the Awards Luncheon. This year we have added a program for high school math and science students known as "The Walking Robot Challenge". Teams of 2-8 high school students will design and build a motor powered robot that walks under direction. The competition involves four main components: a written report, the construction of the entry, the robot's performance on a course in competition with other entries, and an oral report. The regional conference will include meetings of the various Region 3 Standing and Ad Hoc committees, Region 3 Executive Committee, and the Region 3 Committee. In addition, several IEEE dignitaries will make presentations on the future of IEEE. The SoutheastCon 2004 Conference Committee has worked long and hard to bring you what we hope is the best SoutheastCon ever held. Now it is up to you.
