IEEE Area 1, Virginia Council Report to Region 3 July 10, 2004 The Virginia Council met face-to-face at SECON 2004 in Columbia, and by e-conference on June 12, 2004. The main discussion at both meetings was our proposal to host SOUTHEASTCON 2007. There will be a kickoff meeting in Richmond this Sunday, July 11. Sean Haynes, Council Past Chair, and Adeeb Hamzey, Council Vice-Chair, are organizing the meeting. Sean has prepared a preliminary agenda. Please contact Sean or Adeeb for current progress. Another concern for the Council is the suspension of the Crozet and Pletta awards. These were state-wide awards, given annually to an outstanding engineer in state or local government(Crozet), and an outstanding engineering educator from Virginia. The IEEE Virginia Council had sponsored these awards for many years, together with VSPE (Virginia chapter of NSPE, Professional Engineers), ASCE (Civil Engineers), and the American Council of Engineering Companies of Virginia. They were suspended this year due to lack of support. Ralph Russel from the Richmond Section is working to get them restored. Virginia Council Officers are: > * Chair David Geer (d.geer@ieee.org) > * Vice Chair Adeeb Hamzey (a.hamzey@ieee.org) > * Secretary Bill Clayton (w.clayton@ieee.org) > * Treasurer Carlos Whaley (carlos.whaley@ieee.org) > * Past Chair Sean Haynes (s.a.haynes@ieee.org) > > Virginia Section Chairs for 2004 are: > * Central Virginia Chair Carlos Whaley (carlos.whaley@ieee.org) > * Hampton Roads Chair William Edmonson (wedmonson@ieee.org) > * Richmond Vice Chair Andrew Shulick (apshulick@ieee.org) > * Virginia Mountain Chair Shawn Addington (AddingtonJS@mail.vmi.edu) > * Northern Virginia Chair Amarjeet Basra > (amarjeet.basra@fairfaxcounty.gov) Respectfully Submitted, David H.
