Volunteers Needed at State Level The Government Activities Committee (GAC) under PACE is concerned with issues and policy arising at the state government level. Some examples of such issues are: * Regulation of professional engineering licensing * Continuing education credits to keep PE licenses in effect * Licensing of software through shrink-wrap at state level (UCITA) - https://www.ieeeusa.org/forum/POSITIONS/digitalworks.html For further background see https://www.computerworld.com/governmenttopics/government/legalissues/story/0,10801,65590,00.html * State responses to Help America Vote Act (HAVA) - plans are needed for every state to insure election machinery provides fairness (e.g., auditability of tallys from direct-recording (touchscreen) equipment * State legislation on use of taxpayer funds for offshore contracting for state purposes * State-level insurance company regulation The Committee activities are described at https://www.ieeeusa.org/COMMITTEES/gac/index.html#activity For every state in Region 3 we need several volunteers who will keep an eye on activity in the statehouse and alert the GAC to any new developments. Ideally, these will be members who read the same newspapers circulated in state capitals, or who have special interest or experience in state-level lawmaking and/or regulation.
