Region 3 - Past-Directors Report July 12, 2005 Executive Committee Meeting As the Regions Past-Director, I was hoping that my volunteer workload would ease a bit - that has not been the case. More than likely I only have myself to blame for setting so many goals for myself and the entities I am involved in, but that is not new and I don't see it changing in the near future. First - Section's Congress 2005 Currently, my work has been concentrating on our upcoming Sections Congress 2005 (SC05) - the first one every held in Region 3 (at least to my knowledge it is). This will be a highlight for the Region in 2005 and, as Section Congress Steering Committee Chair, I can assure you we have some very capable individuals working to make it one of the best ones ever held. Let me take this opportunity to thank the many volunteers and staff involved in putting on this SC05 event. They are putting in lots of volunteer hours for all of us. Key to our success are the leaders - Dave Green, Program Committee Chair, Quang Tang, Local Committee Chair, and John Twitchell, Vice-Chair of the Steering Committee. Bill Harrison, our R3 Director is one of several others who also sit on the Steering Committee. And while I put a lot of my efforts towards SC05, I am still serving on the following IEEE Committees: - IEEE Audit Committee (consultant and past chair) - IEEE Membership Development Committee (IEEE-USA Representative) - IEEE Finance Committee (liaison from the Audit Committee) - IEEE Nominations and Appointments Committee - IEEE Regional Activities Board(RAB) Nominations and Appointments Committee - IEEE Region 3 Nominations and Appointments Committee (chair) Not to mention my local Section activities - Florida West Coast Section (FWCS) Student Branch Mentor, Nominations Committee Member, Vice-Chair IAS Annual Meeting 2006, Substation Committee Meeting 2005, and Chair of the Power Engineering Society Annual Meeting 2007. Now you can probably understand why my boat has not left its slip in over 6 months - but, of course, that is my choice and I thoroughly enjoy my IEEE work. Let me close by asking all of you to plan to attend our Sections Congress 2005 and to plan to bring as many of your officers with you as you can. In the not to distant future you will be provided more information on the cost for additional officers and how to arrange for their attendance. In the mean time, please budget some funds to get them to this one-of-a-kind meeting.
