The mission of the emeritbadges.org Project is to provide a global non-discriminatory pre-college technology education program for boys and girls. The emeritbadges.org Project Manager is Ralph Russell from the IEEE Region 3 Richmond Section. Finance The IEEE RAB approved $50,000 for project funding at the IEEE June Board Series in Kansas City. A proposal was made to the IEEE Foundation in September 2004 for off set funding as required by the RAB funding approval. Ms. Julie Woodward is serving as the Project Financial Manager. Ms. Woodward has developed a procedure for project financial transactions and issues monthly project financial reports to the Region 3 Treasurer. Paperwork for an IEEE Concentration Banking Account has been submitted to IEEE HQ. The IEEE Richmond Section has approved project financial support of $1,595. The IEEE Virginia Council accepted a challenge to obtain 1,000 donated 9-volt batteries from Virginia IEEE members. A proposal for $7,500 in funding from the Dominion Foundation was made in October 2004. Activities * Web site www.emeritbadges.org operational with pre-college technology education instructional material * Girls & Technology Education Program team being formed. Working with Girl Scouts of the USA Manager of Science and Technology, a Past President of the Society of Women Engineers, and Girl Scout Council Presidents to develop a Girls & Technology Program and to obtain project funding. * Engineering Careers Program team being formed. Manager of this team is from the MTT Society. This 30 minute high energy introduction to careers in engineering will be introduced at the 2005 National Scout Jamboree. * Project is sponsoring the IEEE Electronics Merit Badge Booth at the 2005 National Scout Jamboree Merit Badge Midway. Currently developing a new microprocessor based kit and recruiting full time and part time volunteers. * Globalization of project includes web site links to global technology programs and emeritbadges.org project web links on IEEE Regions 8 (Europe) and Region 10 (Asia) web sites.
