IEEE Lexington Section Report 2004 The Lexington Section meeting attendance has been up in 2004. We don't really know why, perhaps the meeting topics just appealed to more people. Typical attendance has been 15 to 20 professionals plus 4 students. Topics included the University of KY Solar Car presentation, GE Medical Imaging presentation, Doppler Weather Radar Tour, Okonite Cable Manufacturing Tour, Student Paper Contest, EE Educational Model Contest, Student Paper Contest, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Tour, Trane (Air-handler) Manufacturing Tour. Our most highly attended meeting was on Doppler Weather Radar and TV studio tour. We watched the live evening news broadcast and took a tour lead by the local TV weather guy. A tour of Intertek test facility is planned for our November meeting followed by a joint meeting with the Louisville Section in December. Meeting notices are electronically distributed to all whom have email addresses listed in SAMIEEE. Postcards are mailed to the remaining 15%. Our web site is updated each month with the meeting information. A full size newsletter is planned by year-end to be mailed to the entire membership. The Section also supported pre-high school robotic team by granting $1250 for travel expenses to SEC 2004. We made a similar grant for the Intel Science Fair team travels and contributed funds for a new Bluegrass Amateur Radio tower construction. Our PACE chair has tirelessly encouraged members to apply for senior membership in support of the region goals. Section meeting have also provided networking that lead to several unemployed members and students finding jobs. Respectfully submitted, Ray A. Williams IEEE Section Chair 2004
