Leon Shore will be present as acting PACE Chair. Activities and Accomplishments Our goal was 8 section meetings. So far we have had 6 with two more scheduled for October and November. We have upgraded one more of our members to Senior Member status, thanks to the efforts of our Section Membership Director. We have appointed a Chair for the EMBS/Computer Science Society Chapter and are in the process of getting the petition filed. Our monthly section meetings have had a steady increase in attendance to an all time high of over 50 attendees in August. We presently are having a series of lectures on "Nanotechnology," organized by the section's Vice Chair, which has become quite popular, so popular a student section at one of our state colleges has asked us to videoconference the series to them. Overall, the section is doing well. Thanks in large part to the efforts of our newsletter and website editors. They have been distributing promotional information well in advance of the meetings via email and hardcopy (the US Postal Service is still an effective way of getting attention.) In addition, Wake Forest University Medical Engineering has been vital to the section's success by providing excellent facilities for the meetings. <>GOALS for the remainder of 2004 1. Two more section meetings (Nanotechnology Series). 2. Two more ExCom meetings (October and December). 3. Have the EMBS/ComSci chapter established by the end of 2004.
