IEEE REGION 3 AREA 9 / Jamaica Section REPORT TO REGION 3 EXCOM APRIL, 2005 The Jamaica Section continues to provide leadership in the area of electrical, electronics and computer engineering. The Section is striving to become the most outstanding in the Region. A schedule of general meetings held for the year is shown in Table I. The goals of the section for 2005 are as follows: 1. Increasing the number of Senior Members by 3. 2. Meet with the Jamaica Government Minister with the responsibility for Technology, with the view of influencing technological decisions on behalf of the country. 3. Meet with the Jamaica Governor General. 4. Participate in the ACM/IEEE 8th International Conference on Model Driven Language And Systems (Formerly the UML Series of Conferences) to be held at the Half Moon Resort, Montego Bay, Jamaica October 2-7, 2005 5. Hosting a Technological Seminar or Discussion Forum 6. Sending delegates to Section Congress 7. Sending delegates to SoutheastCon 2005 and PACE Activities Student Branches: Both student branches, The University of the West Indies and the University of Technology, Jamaica remains committed to the ideals of the IEEE. The UTech branch is actively preparing to compete in the student contests at SoutheastCon 2005. Communications Society Chapter The Communications Society Chapter (ComSoc) of the IEEE Jamaica Section continues to make their contribution to the development of members in Area 9. Halden A.
