Director-Elect Report to R3 Excom 1. The Region 3 recommendation to reestablish the IEEE Membership Directory in some form has been referred to the Membership Development Committee. A new feature in the RAB/TAB rosters allows a search by name. If that name is included, details associated with it will appear. 2. Most entities have reported officers for 2005 to georoster@ieee.org. In some cases, where officers serve two-year terms it was necessary to advise Hq. of that fact to get the listing updated to 2005. Units not yet updated for 2005 officers include Chattanooga and Tri-Cities sections, and the Tennessee Council. 3. Only one section has been delinquent in submitting the L-50 financial form for 2003; the chair has been contacted to get the 2003 and 2004 L-50s in. The deadline for submission to qualify for the rebate is June 30. L-50s have not yet been received for the Coastal SC, Columbia, Eastern Tennessee, Evansville-Owensboro and Tri-Cities sections, and for the following Councils: NC, SC, TN, and VA. Councils must submit financial reports, but are not required to report meetings. 4. An advantage of the IEEE alias is the ãone-stop shoppingä when changing ISP. With an alias, it is only necessary to change the association with an ISP to redirect all your email. Without an alias, it is necessary to notify all email correspondents of any change. Since much IEEE business is conducted through email, an inoperative email address can keep an officer from receiving vital information. Aliases are easy to remember, usually being formed from your name, regardless of the actual address used by the ISP. 5. Chapters with low activity that are classed as inactive now include EM14 in Alabama section; ED15/LEO36, EM14, and VT06 in Atlanta section; C16 and PE31 in Charlotte section; AES10 in Orlando section; PE31 in Richmond section, and IA34 in Virginia Mountain section. Sections are encouraged to revitalize these chapters as a service to their members (since networking at chapter meetings is a strong attraction). * All R3 Excom members are encouraged to join the IEEE Region 3 Forum, a Virtual Community, which requires a web account. To sign up for the web account, go to https://services1.ieee.org/membersvc/registration/intro.htm . To access the Region 3 Forum go to https://www.ieeecommunities.org/region3 . Currently there are only 26 members signed up. George F McClure g.mcclure@ieee.org 1730 Shiloh Ln Winter Park, FL 32789 407 647-5092 Fax 407 644-4076 Mobile 407 758-0321
