IEEE East TN Section Report to Region 3 CHAIR: Greg Peterson VICE CHAIR: Mark Allen SECRETARY: Craig Deibele TREASURER: Kathy Kirkland WEBMASTER: Brian Swail DIRECTOR: Igor Alexeff PACE CHAIR: David Bower The East TN Section had several general meetings and Excoms in the past year. One of the meetings was hosted by NucSafe; NucSafe is based in Oak Ridge, TN and manufactures nuclear instruments, systems, and accessories for nuclear safeguards, nuclear security, process control and quality control markets. The section also supported The Tennessee Inventors Association (TIA) presentation of an an invention marketing seminar , whose purpose was to give guidance regarding the many types of marketing techniques that are available for inventions. Dr. Saeed Assadi spoke at a meeting to discuss the laser wire technology and techniques designed and deployed at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Finally, a presentation was given by Dr. Way Kuo, Dean of Engineering at the University of Tennessee; Dr. Kuo provided a very lively and interactive forum on the direction of the college and views on education in the field of engineering. Other activities included support of student IEEE groups at The University of Tennessee-Knoxville and Pellissippi State Community College. Officers, such as David Bower, the Pace Chair, and Brian Swail, our WebMaster, continued to be very active throughout the 2004 year; and Kathy Kirkland, our treasurer, attended several regional meetings as a representative of the section. The current year has been quiet so far, but a meeting is scheduled for Monday April 11, and will include the election of new officers for the coming year. Also at the meeting, a presentation on plasma glow discharges will be given by University of Tennessee professor Dr. J. Reece Roth. Scheduled for the next month is a meeting at a local company that specializes in aviation audio electronics. The section will once again support student chapters and encourage active participation by IEEE members in educational activities.
