IEEE Palm Beach Section Report for Region 3 Meeting at Fort Lauderdale, Florida - April 8-10, 2005 Chair: Anthony Cortez Past Chair/interim treasurer: Richard Seibel Vice Chair: Joe Altomare Treasurer: Miguel Gutierrez Our Membership Develpment officer Richard Wu resigned early this year due to work schedule. Looking to fill this position and several others. We've had Three Excom meetings so far this year. The ExCom has been quite productive in gathering information and setting section goals. In the excution of goals so far the section has been somewhat active, however, we're in the process of generating proposals for pending projects by Dr. Bassem A. Alhalbai, Ph from FAU. We're going to conduct a series of phone confrence meetings in order to expedite the implementation of the section projects. Three members attended the first Council meeting for the year 2005 conducted at Orlando, Florida on 1-29-2005. A certificate was given to Richard Seibel in appreciation for the last two years of service to the section. Carl Hussey will be attending the Teacher In-Service Program[TISP] on July 23, 2005 in Atlanta, GA. Travel expenses to the workshop will be covered by IEEE Educational Activities. Carl Hussey feels that his participation in Educational Activities at the Florida Council/Area 4 level during the past five[5] years through his chairmanship of the Educational Activities Committee has given him a vision for the TISP. The Signal & Communications societies at FAU, Chaired by Cyril Iskander and Hari Kalva, have had several successfull meetings this year with high attendance. Hari, Cyril and Dr. Bassem are highly motivated members of the IEEE Palm Beach Section. We had Carl Hussey, PACE chair and Anthony Cortez ,Section Chair, attend the IEEE USA PACE Leadership Workshop at Tucson, Arizona. We are looking to implement some of the ideas from the PACE workshop. Some of them being the involvement with local media and the creation of a section video or CD in order to promote awareness. We're still generating the section news letter, headed by news letter editor Chuck Barest. There will be aproximately 5 or 6 members participating at the SoutheastCon 2005 this year. Current ideas/projects: 1. Section Fund Raiser Project. 2. Student Job Referral System. 3. Online Questionare for Section members. 5. Ensuring that ExCom meets on a monthly basis to exchange information and ideas and follow up on projects. 6. Awards banquet ceremony 7. Will be coordinating activities with Miami Section Chair in order to amplify efforts.
