Vennie Filippas, Ph.D. Activities: Section Meetings: -- Jan - CapTech Ventures - RFID Overview and Demonstration -- Feb - VCU research - Biotechnology - Eye tracking systems -- Mar - Chrysalis Technology Inc. - Pharmacological Instrumentation Other items -- All 2004 officers were re-elected for 2005 -- PE 31 had a meeting on November 10, 2004. 2005 program is being developed. -- The newly formed Richmond "Women in Engineering Affinity Group" received IEEE approval, elected their officers, held their first public meeting. -- On Jan. 29, Charles Lord conducted a Leadership training seminar for the VA Council area. 18 members were in attendance. They represented the Richmond, Central VA, and the Hampton Roads sections. -- The section supported an information table on Career Day at the Richmond Science Museum during Engineers Week on Feb 27, 2005. -- The section supported an information table at the Children's Engineering Convention in Richmond on February 24-26, 2005. John Cross was a speaker. --The section is pleased to announce that members have volunteered to fill the new positions of: Membership chair, Section PACE chair, Awards & Recognition chair, Public Information chair, Educational Activities chair with three activity coordinators, and an Industry Relations chair. -- Other 2005 Activities scheduled: -- Ralph Russell,II is heavily involved in coordinating the July 2005 National Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill in Caroline County, VA. -- Planning activities continue on Southeastcon 2007. -- From our membership monthly section meeting surveys and other feedback, the section's monthly meeting agenda time slots have been adjusted. -- The section is working with Microsoft to have Microsoft provide TechNet type briefings to our VCU and VSU college student chapters. -- Andy Shulick is IEEE representative on the Virginia State University's Industrial Advisory Committee and its Student Concerns Subcommittee. Section Goals: --Continual support of our two student branches - Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia State University --Increase participation of membership in meetings and activities --Provide value added monthly programs for the membership --Increase and enhance communications to the membership --Cultivate public awareness of the IEEE organization and its membership Respectively submitted, Andy Shulick IEEE Richmond VA Section 2004 Chair
