Accomplishments in 2004 1. We met our goal of 8 section meetings, with attendance averaging approximately 35. The meetings focused on wireless standards, biomedical applications and nanotechnology. 2. The EMBS/SP Chapter has begun to take shape. The first meeting will be in the fall of 2005. 3. Provided sponsorship and volunteers to the 2nd annual Winston-Salem Egg Drop Competition that was a smashing success. Overall, the section is doing well. Thanks in large part to the efforts of our newsletter and website editors. They have been distributing promotional information well in advance of the meetings via email and hardcopy. The US Postal Service is still an effective way of getting attention. In addition, Wake Forest University Medical Engineering has been vital to the section's success by providing excellent facilities for the meetings. GOALS for the remainder of 2005 1. Kick-off the EMBS/SP chapter meetings. 2. Promotional campaign to get more members involved in serving as volunteers particularly from the local industrial community (Executive Committee.) I would like to put some incentives in place (e.g. free IEEE membership dues for Officers.) Without the efforts of our volunteers the W-S Section would be non-existent. Participation from industry professionals is the key to our section's future. <> 3. Continue to upgrade qualified members to senior status. <> 4. We have had three section meetings thus far in 2005 and plan for five more in the remainder of the year. <> Respectfully submitted, Jim Kemerling Winston-Salem Section Chair
