Region 3 ExCom and R3 Sections:

As Dave Green, Region 3 Secretary, announced, we will have a mid-year
e-conference Saturday, 9 July, starting at 10:00 AM.  Thank you for the
stream of reports coming!

Dave is posting reports on the R3 Internet site. Please be there on Saturday
if possible.

All R3 ExCom and Region 3 section representatives should attend Sections
Congress 2005. We plan to hold a Region 3 Meeting Friday morning before
SC2005 officially convenes.  Charles Hickman, R3 Treasurer, will remind us
about funding reimbursement guidelines for R3 Sections and ExCom.

Region 3 is recognized as an IEEE regional, national, transnational leader,
with many of our people serving on IEEE boards and committees. If you have
interest in volunteering, please contact me or George McClure.

I am not aware of any major Region 3 issues to be decided immediately,
except for Membership Development concerns being brought forth by Lee
Stogner.  Please be prepared to bring items up at the econference if you
have issues to be discussed, deliberated, decided.

I will have a couple of important issues to discuss with the Region at our
October meeting in Tampa.  I will distribute information, and look for your
input.

George McClure, incoming Region 3 Director for 2006-2007, and I attended the
IEEE-USA Congressional Visits Day in Washington, DC, May 10-11.  That was an
experience you all should consider participating in.  2005 was the tenth
year of IEEE congressional visitations.  IEEE-USA joined with forty-plus
other science-engineering-technology societies to plead with Congress to
continue funding for line item 6.1, basic research, (plus 6.2 and 6.3,
design, development, and commercialization of innovations) in the Department
of Defense budget.   Please consider volunteering for 2006. Washington
visits are important, but only door-openers.  Follow up contacts with local
congressional district representatives and senators, face-to-face, voter
constituency, speak louder after making contact with key congressional
staffers in Washington.
