IEEE Region 3 RSAC Report Summer 2005 Bruce L. Walcott, RSAC Patricia Davis, RSR School has recessed for IEEE Region 3 student members, but there are activities to report nonetheless since the successful Southeastcon 2005 meeting in Ft. Lauderdale back in April. In particular, there have been two awards announced since then and planning is underway for the second annual IEEE Region 3 Student Leadership Retreat (which has taken the place of the STLWs). Also, we will report on progress for the student activities planned for Southeastcon 2006, to be held March 30-April 2 in Memphis, Tennessee. RECENT AWARDS Since the completion of the student activities program at Southeastcon 2005, there have been two major awards concerning Region 3 students. The first was announced at the RAB meeting three weeks ago and is the RAB Membership Growth Award given to the student branch that achieves the best metrics in the areas of growth as defined by RAB. I am delighted to say that this year's RAB Growth Award goes to the University of Kentucky. Congratulations, UK! Recall that the winner of the IEEE Region 3 Web Contest is entered into the "World-Wide" Web competition with the other 9 regions. The results have been tallied and the winners are First Place Winner IEEE VESIT (Region 10) Score: 80.7 Second Place Winner Auburn University (Region 3) Score: 79.08 Third Place Winner UBC(Region 7) Score: 78.1 Congratulations to Auburn University and many thanks to Chuck Barest from the Palm Beach Section for volunteering to do the judging for Region 3! STUDENT LEADERSHIP RETREAT Recall at the student branch chair workshop held at Southeastcon 2004 in Greensboro, North Carolina, the students were asked if one single, centrally-located SLTW would be preferable to the 4-5 SLTWs currently conducted in the Fall. The overwhelming response was for a single, SLTW. Last Fall, we had our first single Leadership Student Retreat in Atlanta, Georgia, and was deemed an overwhelming success by those in attendance. This year, the Student Leadership Retreat will be held on September 16th-18th in Atlanta. Negotiations with the two prospective sites are being conducted as we speak and will be finalized, soon. The tentative agenda for the Retreat is given below. Note the addition of the first-ever, IEEE Region 3 Ethics Competition.
