Subject: Area 6 Report for September 2005 ExCom

Let me first begin by apologizing for my lack of attendance and
correspondence during the summer months.  My son, Nicholas was born
6/8/05, and my family priorities consumed that time.

Before my exit from the professional world, Area 6 was moving along
quite nicely.  For reference, Area 6's 2005 goals are listed below:

1.  Semi-annual visits to all sections in Area 6.
2.  Seek interest and support for semi-annual section chair meetings in
    Area 6 (likely via e-conference).
3.  Develop a vehicle of knowledge transfer for the area to which each
    section chair and their members have access.

I had been able to meet with most of the sections in Area 6 before I
departed.  With scheduled meetings in the future, I hope to accomplish
goal 1, which has and will continue to improve communications.

Area 6 had a 'kick off' executive committee meeting in Birmingham, AL
last May, where all sections of the area had an opportunity to gather
and discuss topics of interest.  All active sections had representation.
During that meeting, topics of discussion were the direction of the Area
and how it could best serve the section and the region; and the
revitalization of the Mobile section, which has become inactive.  Out of
that meeting, several goals were accomplished:

1.  The executive committee members that were present got to personally
    meet members of other sections in Area 6.
2.  An action plan was developed to begin the revitalization of the
    Mobile section, with all sections bearing some responsibility.
3.  The area has a better defined direction, as determined by the
    sections.

With the forward progress that was made in the first half of the year,
and a great team of committee members that are actively involved, I feel
satisfied that any goal set forth by the area will be met.  The
willingness to take responsibilities, and the camaraderie that the
sections have displayed to date is refreshing, and rewarding.
