--------------- Atlanta Section Report --------------- ----- Summary ----- - More than 3900 current members and affiliates - More than 650 student members - Active GOLD Chapter - 13 Society Chapters -- two of them very active (PE & IA) -- Several healthy (reliably more than 2 meetings per year) -- Some struggling (EM, CPMT, joint ED/LEO) - Including chapter activity, the Atlanta Section routinely hosts more than 30 meetings per year. - Atlanta Section just starting to co-host monthly meetings with a GSPE chapter in metro Atlanta - If you need to contact the Atlanta Section, and you don't have a contact point, your best first try is to officers@ieee-atlanta.org (which goes to chair, vice-chair, secretary, treasurer, and past-chair). ----- Professional Activities ----- - State Licensing Review: two Atlanta Section members (Wei Zhao and Chase Battaglio) are representing IEEE-Atlanta, working with the Coalition of Professional Engineering Associations to improve the licensing process in Georgia. - Aviation Museum: Atlanta Section active in developing an aviation museum and education center in Marietta, GA. Bill Marshall (2004 & 2005 Chair) is on Board of Directors. Very good opportunity for increasing IEEE exposure in GA. - Working with R3 to setup a LDO workshop in Atlanta this fall. ----- Pre-College (a.k.a., K-12) Education Service ----- - Atlanta Section active with EAB-TISP workshop in July 2005 (hosted pre-workshop session & dinner on prior Friday) - new K-12 Coordinator (Amy Wilson, k12-admin@ieee-atlanta.org) - planning for TISP workshop at grade 3-5 magnet school - planning for 'Family Science Night' at second elementary school - Carol Ansley is working on getting IEEE TISP officially recognized by GA for professional development credit - Aviation/Aerospace curriculum revision committee: Atlanta Section has representative (Melanie Barclay) on a state curriculum committee for revising aviation & aerospace related curricula in state K-12 schools.
