To: Region 3 ExCom, Region 3 Sections From: Pat Donohoe, Region 3 Educational Activities Chair Subject: Educational Activities Committee Report Date: 18 September 2005 The Region 3 Teacher In-Service Program (TISP) workshop was held in Atlanta, GA on July 23, 2005. This workshop was attended by more than 60 participants representing 23 Region 3 Sections. The institutionalization of TISP will allow engineers to forge long-term working relationships with pre-university educators which can provide the opportunity to impact a significant number of students. TISP is an optimal way to enhance the level of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics knowledge of the local pre-university community. Expansion of TISP will play an important role in The Engineering Center for Pre-University Education. Recently launched by IEEE EA, the Engineering Center for Pre-University Education is an umbrella organization of engineering professional associations and educational professional associations, dedicated to increasing the propensity of young people worldwide to choose engineering as a career path. The Educational Activities Committee is currently soliciting nominations for the 2005 IEEE Region 3 Employer Professional Development Award. The deadline for nominations is December 1, 2005. The purpose of this award is to recognize organizations in Region 3 which employ IEEE members for outstanding contributions by the organization to employee continuing education and professional development as evidenced by their quality, comprehensiveness, innovation, or impact.
