Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) Report
                              January 2006 ExCom Meeting

As my first official act as the new SPC Chair I would like to commend
Bob Duggan for his outstanding leadership and the invaluable
contributions made to the Region and IEEE as SPC Chair over the past 12
years. It has been my honor to work with Bob as SPC Vice Chair and to
witness first hand the standard of excellence he sets in the conduct of
the many volunteer activities that he performs. With Bob's and your help
and support, I pledge to maintain the standard of excellence that Bob
has set for us.

1.  The SPC will meet on Saturday 1/28 in Atlanta. 
    (Agenda to SPC members will follow)

NOTE TO SPC MEMBERS:  Please plan to attend the "Planning Retreat
Wrap Up" on Friday January 27, 2006 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM in the
Savannah AB.  You will need that background for the SPC meeting on Saturday.

2.  The latest Strategic Plan for 2005+ was approved by R3 ExCom on 4/4/05.
    The Sections Congress in Tampa offered several important
    recommendations, and the Planning Retreat in Atlanta on 1/26 & 27
    will make several recommendations for Region 3 emphasis during 2006.

    Revision/updating of the 2005+ Plan may take some time depending on
    the results and recommendations' of the Planning Retreat.

3.  SPC Mentors assigned for 2005 are posted on the web at
    https://www.ewh.ieee.org/reg/3/spc/mentors.txt  .  Assignments
    for 2006 will be discussed at the SPC meeting in Atlanta.

4.  The SPC 2005 Goals & Objectives are posted on the web at
    https://www.ewh.ieee.org/reg/3/spc/g-o05.txt  .
    G&Os for 2006 will be discussed in our Atlanta SPC meeting.

5.  The last Reg 3 ByLaws update was in 7 April 2002.  The last
    Operations Manual update was in July 2003.  Both the
    Reg 3 ByLaws and the Ops Manual are accessible from the
    SPC website at https://www.ewh.ieee.org/reg/3/spc
    The Reg 3 ByLaws and Ops Manual may need revisions and
    updates depending on the results and recommendations' of the
    Planning Retreat.

6.  We look forward to the meeting in Atlanta later this month.
