Virginia Council Report IEEE Region 3 Excom. Meeting March 31-April 2, 2006 Memphis, TN Submitted: March 15, 2006 There are two projects on going at the Virginia Council Level. SoutheastCon 2007 IEEE Liaison to the Virginia General Assembly. SouteastCon 2007: Preparation, planning, and organizing activities are underway to hold the SoutheastCon 2007 in Richmond, Virginia March 22 - 25, 2007, at the Richmond Marriott. The following activities have been accomplished: * Contract with the Marriott has been executed. * Call for papers has been published. * Student hardware competition general rules have been established. * Support committees have been formed. * The budget has been updated to reflect present conditions. State Government Activities: Work is being done on linking IEEE Virginia members with state legislators. The organization is based on IEEE members living in areas represented by legislative senatorial and delegate districts. IEEE-USA staff Russ Harrison is helping in this effort. Other Activities: * All Virginia sections elected new executive committees. Section reports have been sent to IEEE, and positions of representatives at the Virginia Council level are being sought to form new VA Council Committee. * The bicycle generator was used with great interest at the Children Engineering Convention at the Marriott hotel, in the Richmond West End area, the weekend of February 24 -26, 2006. Volunteers from the Richmond Section presented information about engineering at one of the Convention sessions to inform science teachers attending about engineering and the Teacher-in-service Training Program by IEEE. * All sections organized activities and participated in the annual Engineers Week 2007 banquets. * The Richmond Section joined the Richmond Joint Engineers Council at the Engineering Careers Day at the Science Museum of Virginia.
