NC Council Report The North Carolina Council is alive and well, at least as well as any other area is. Like the others, we dropped approximately 20% of membership at the "terminator", and a few of our sections are facing challenges with getting volunteers and programs. However, we do have much good to report! Our Charlotte section is doing great, after a period of relative inactivity. I had the honor and privilege of speaking at their March Computer Society meeting, and there was a strong turnout. Jim Conrad has a great group of people who are working to make things happen in their section. The Council had its first meeting - via econference and teleconference - last week. Unfortunately, we were the ones who found that the new IRC server was inadvertently set to a low max number of attendees. The Council will meet at SoutheastCon and will have another meeting in late April / early May in Charlotte to plan some activities. In concert with Director-Elect Ratcliff's initiative of establishing more teamwork between areas, we are instituting TeamNC, a new teamwork concept between the sections in our state and the Council. We hope to use this initiative to improve communications channels to and from the members for not only our area but also the Region and HQ. Current plans for the year include a weekend leadership development retreat (date TBA) and a possible fall statewide conference (tentatively an MPAC, like the first one ever, held in 1994 in RTP).
