Introduction

The year 2006 has commenced with a positive start for the IEEE Jamaica Section. The
Officers and the EXCOM of the IEEE Jamaica Section, the Jamaica Chapter of COMSOC, and
the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTECH) Student Chapter are in place and our
initial planning meetings are behind us.

Membership

Although our membership has grown we are not satisfied with the attendance at our
monthly meetings. We continue to plan stimulating presentations and interesting site
visits, which hopefully will improve our monthly meeting attendance.

Sectional Activities - 2006

January's monthly meeting took the form of a Retreat where a yearlong programme of
activities was planned however some are yet to be confirmed. In addition a meeting was
convened at UTECH, January 18, 2006 to assist in their planning for SoutheastCon 2006
Student Conference visit. February 1, 2006 was our EXCOM meeting followed by a tour of
Jamaica Network Access Point (JNAP) facilities on February 15, 2006. There will be a
Technical Presentation by GE on March 15, and our Annual Social will be on March 18,
2006.

Jamaica Chapter of COMSOC - Activities

The chapter held its planning meeting and has outlined its activities for the year.  

 
PACE
 
PACE Chair Dr. Halden Morris attended the PACE Leadership workshop St. Louis, MO.
E-Conference Meetings

On January 16, 2006 the IEEE Jamaica Section Chair and Region 3 Area 9 Chair joined
Region 3 EXCOM and participated in our first E-Conference Meeting for the year. It is
also our intention to participate in the next Region 3 EXCOM E-Conference Meeting on
March 22, 2006.

Website - IEEE Jamaica Section

Webmaster Milverton Moore continues to keep the website current and provides valuable
information for the Jamaica Section and Region 3. The IEEE Jamaica Section Website
serves as our newsletter and the URL is as follows: https://www.ewh.ieee.org/r3/jamaica.
 
SoutheastCon2006 Delegation

Region 3, Area 9 Chair, Devon L. Gayle, Jamaica Section Chair, Wilfred A. Roberts, and
hopefully Student Members.

The section will also be continuing activities for the Teacher in Service Programme
(TISP)
