Central Savannah River Section Michael Rollins, Chair The Section has continued to serve the membership of the central Savannah River area with monthly meetings which are attended by 12-15 loyal members. Two of the meetings this past summer were of special interest. The first was a tour in June of the Lake Thurmond dam and generation station. The generation equipment was being overhauled at the time, so the tour included an opportunity to walk inside the generators. The second special meeting was a social event at the local semi-pro baseball team (Augusta Green Jackets) home game. After a hot dog/hamburger snack the members had seats behind home plate to watch the local stars play ball. The Section continued to promote engineering as a good career choice by supporting the local college night activities. This is an annual event held at the civic center where high school juniors/seniors gather information from college, professional and military organizations about career options. Three volunteers manned an IEEE table to provide literature. The Section also supported the regional Future City competition by providing 6 volunteers who helped with reviewing project abstracts, timing presentations and judging displays. Funding was also provided to sponsor some awards for the students. A chapter of the Industry Applications Society was formed at the end of the year, so the support for it will be added to the activities as the new year progresses.
