REGION 3 PUBLIC INFORMATION REPORT--2006 ACTIVITIES TO: Region 3 Excom FR: David Bower, R3 Public Information Officer DT: May 22, 2006 Summary of 2006 activities: 1. Attended the IEEE-USA Leadership Workshop (St. Louis) in support of various R3 PR initiatives. Exhibited three photo displays highlighting Region 3. Displays were: Activities at R3 level; activities at R3 section level; and R3 at Sections Congress 2005. Display included various R3 materials, plus materials from IEEE USA. Photographs made of activities at IEEE-USA Leadership Workshop. Photos submitted to Quang Tang for possible use in R3 NL. Photos were submitted for use on Region 3 Web Page. 2. Attended SoutheastCon in support of various R3 initiatives. Exhibited three photo displays. Displays were: Activities at R3 level; R3 activities at Sections Congress 2005; and R3 activities at the IEEE-USA Leadership Workshop in St. Louis. Display included materials from IEEE Headquarters, and included copies of the Publicity Guide and the new PR and Government Relations Guide from IEEE-USA. Worked with Lee Stogner (and others) regarding display materials for Region 3 Membership Development Initiative. Photographs made of various activities at SoutheastCon. Photographs documented for use by 2007 SoutheastCon. Photos made of those receiving awards. News Releases prepared (and issued) working with appropriate local sections. Each news release included a photograph of specific award presentation. Photographs sent to several sections (at their request) for use in their section newsletter. Photos were submitted for use on Region 3 Web Page. Worked with Mary Ellen Randall regarding those receiving awards, and submitted photographs of various award activities for use with R3 Newsletter. 3. Reed Thompson Tribute article for IEEE; The Institute. Worked with Bob Duggan, Margaret Thompson (Reed's widow), and Kathy Kowalenko (Editor, The Institute) to research and write the article. Article will appear in May 2006 issue of The Institute; to be distributed electronically starting May 24. It's available now at www.theinstitute.ieee.org. The Reed Thompson Tribute Ceremony at SoutheastCon was documented with photographs and narrative for historical purposes. Pictures were submitted, and posted, on R3 Web Page. Pictures also mailed to Margaret Thompson (Reed's widow). 4. Continuing to work with Lee Stogner regarding PR initiative for R3 Membership Development.
