The NC Council does not have a lot to report as an entity. As of this report, I have only heard from 2 of our 5 sections, but have seen evidence of activity from all. Our one remaining subsection, Lower Cape Fear (Wilmington area back to Fayetteville), is inactive and in danger of being dissolved. To help rejuvenate the LCFSS, Bill Ratcliff and I held a Leadership by Developing Others workshop in Wilmington on July 12. Both bulk (e-notice) and personal emails were sent to all current members and all arrears (AR-D2) members, inviting them to the free workshop. We had six attendees. All were appreciative of the training but none have shown an interest in helping lead or facilitate a rejuvenation effort. I am going to discuss this at the NC Council meeting scheduled for Sept 16 in Greensboro (date and place tentative at this writing). One idea I have, if we have SSVR/ rejuvenation funds is to put on a workshop or two this fall, targeted at careers or possibly at a technical interest. Apparently, the two major employers of members / potential members are Progress Energy and GE Nuclear / Turbine. I would suggest that we contact these two companies and try to determine what tech skills / subjects that they would be supportive of workshops in their area. I will be contacting our industrial relations chair to discuss this process. As part of the above effort, Bill and I held a workshop on July 11 in Research Triangle Park for the ENCS and it was well-attended. More on this in the LDO report. I would also like to express my thanks to Director-Elect Bill Ratcliff for setting up the active network of my fellow Area / Council Chairs (the "Gang of Nine"). This has been a beneficial support and information exchange mechanism for us and I hope to continue to gain from the active interchange with my 8 counterparts (hurricane jokes aside Kathy!).
