PUBLIC INFORMATION REPORT Submitted by David Bower, Region 3 Public Information Officer d.bower@ieee.org August 28, 2006 Participation in the continuing Region 3 electronic Communication Committee meetings is generating productive ideas for supporting the various R3 public information initiatives. The need to develop a plan to archive R3 pictures, with appropriate captions, has been discussed in the recent meeting. I'm working with Charles Lord, and others, regarding this matter. Because of the large number of pictures, it's important to develop a process to catalog the pictures along with supporting captions and a brief narrative for each picture. Further, a suitable storage size for the digital pictures needs to be defined and approved by R3. Additionally, this information needs to be backed up to protect the material. In recent years, many of the pictures have been captured digitally, but older material is still on film and needs to be converted to digital. It is anticipated that this archival project will be an ongoing process in R3 to adequately document (by captioned pictures) the history of our region. In addition, I'm working with the East Tennessee Section to assist in providing material for their web page.
