Membership Development report for the R3 Fall EXCOM Region 3 Membership Team, The IEEE and IEEE-USA Membership committees have developed a common set of actions to stabilize our base of members and set the pace for ongoing growth. These actions are, 1. Communicate IEEE benefits and values through presentations, articles and one-on-one conversations. 2. Work directly with the Section Chair and MD Chairs to provide resources, MD tools and training for local MD activities. 3. Develop the student Member pipeline. 4. Develop new Members through Society conferences, seminars and publications. 5. Start building the 2007 MD program and team now. These actions were discussed recently with a number of Section Chairs that attended one of two web casts that were hosted by Lee Stogner and Qiana Harder (IEEE MD Staff). For the Region 3 Chairs that were unable to attend, the web cast slides have been uploaded to the IEEE MD Virtual Community. The MD Virtual Community can be located at, https://www.ieeecommunities.org/ieee.md.net As mentioned in an earlier email, every Region 3 Section Chair was sent a 2007 MD Recruitment kit (box). Please let me know if you have not received this box. Lastly, in late summer, Director McClure asked every Section to provide the names of their MD Chairs by September 15. To date, I have not received the name of a single new or reconfirmed Section MD Chair. Please, we need your help and we need a full Region 3 MD team if we are to reverse the current decline in Membership. Region 3 is prepared to help with resources, training and facilitation. You need to build the local MD team if we are to reach our goals. I will see most of you in Atlanta in several weeks. Let's be prepared to talk Membership. Sincerely, Lee Stogner Region 3 Membership Development Chair l.stogner@ieee.org ****************************************************************** From: Lee Stogner Sent: Oct 9, 2006 9:29 PM To: r3-excom2006@IEEE.ORG, sec-r03@IEEE.ORG Cc: r3-mdc@IEEE.ORG Subject: [R3 MDC] Fall Membership Checklist and special Membership Incentive Region 3 Membership Team, All Region 3 Sections are now back in full swing after the summer break and I want to remind you of activities that should be underway for Membership Development. As you know, we have been losing Members in Region 3 for several years. With your help, we can turn that trend around and build a growing IEEE Network across Region 3. To help you with your local Membership campaign, we have sent new Membership Recruitment Kits to every Section, Sub Section and Student Branch in Region 3. These kits contain 2007 brochures, CD's, posters and the brand new IEEE Membership Development Manual and the MD Cheat sheet. These new resources will give you guidance on developing your Section MD campaign, answering typical Membership questions and staying in sync with the top level IEEE MD program. Extra copies of these guides can be downloaded at, https://www.ieee.org/web/volunteers/membership_dev/index.html For example, to stay in sync with IEEE, page 13 of the MD Manual states what you should be doing right now in your campaign. Please read and stay in sync. The Senior Member Upgrade Contest is currently underway and I need to remind you that there is only one more chance to submit applications this year before the November A&A Review Panel Meeting. So please get those applications in and help Region 3 meet its goal again this year. Information on Senior Member upgrades can be found at, https://www.ieee.org/web/membership/grade_elevation/grade_elevation.html Finally I would like to announce a special Membership incentive for Regions 1-6. This incentive is attached and adds to the total program that we have to encourage Membership Development. Please take Membership Development seriously and let Lee Stogner or Jim Howard know if you have questions or need support. Sincerely, Lee Stogner Chair, Region 3 Membership Development l.stogner@ieee.org Jim Howard Vice Chair, Region 3 Membership Development J.howard@ieee.org ************************************************************************************* TO: All IEEE U.S. Section Chairs and Section Membership Chairs FROM: Ralph W. Wyndrum, President, IEEE-USA SUBJECT: SPECIAL INCENTIVE TO IEEE U.S. SECTIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT As encouragement to IEEE's U.S. Sections to proactively recruit higher grade members during the fourth Quarter, 2006, I am pleased to announce the following financial incentives: A $1000 incentive to the section that has the largest percentage increase in higher-grade membership between 1 Oct. 2006 and December 31, 2006. A $1000 incentive to the section that recruits the most new higher grade members (not renewals or transfers between sections) between 1 Oct. 2006 and December 31, 2006. IEEE-USA will also reimburse up to $150 in 2007 membership dues for an individual in each winning section selected by the section chair in recognition of their membership recruitment efforts. This reimbursement can be split amongst two or more individuals as desired. This special IEEE-USA incentive is in addition to the financial incentives available through IEEE's Member-Get-a-Member program. Funds will be distributed to the Sections (and individuals) in the first quarter of 2007 after membership numbers are confirmed. Winners and their successful campaigns will be profiled in a future issue of IEEE-USA's Today's Engineer. I hope you'll take advantage of this offer and join us in working to reverse the decline in IEEE U.S. membership. Please contact Lee Stogner at l.stogner@ieee.org or Scott Grayson at s.grayson@ieee.org if you have any questions.
