IEEE Miami Section Report to IEEE Region 3 Meeting October 28-29, 2006 Atlanta, Georgia Accomplishments and Activities 1. The section is continuing its activities in the form of technical meetings, administrative activities as well as community relations. Ten technical meetings, four Excom meetings, and three social activities (Section and Students) were conducted since April 2006. 2. The section will conduct the 2007 Future City Competition for the State of Florida in the third week of January 2007. 3. The section is participating as a supporter to several minority school programs which are funded by the department of education through the multi- year Gear-up Program to help young school kids form poor areas seek science and engineering field. Section members give lectures and presentation, classroom activities and projects as well as mentoring. 4. A new student branch was created at Miami Dade College. 5. The FIU student branch is active and holds many student meetings. The Miami Dade student branch kicked its first activity in April and had several meetings following that. Both the FIU and Miami Dade student branches volunteered during the conferences sponsored by the section in May 2006. The Student branch at UM is also active and reported several activities. All the student branches will participate in the Southeastcon 2007 in Richmond. 6. The section has successfully cosponsored the IEEE/CEFC 2006 conference, held at the Hyatt Regency Miami, April 30-May 3, 2006. This is one of the main conferences of the Magnetics Society. Nearly 500 participants from some 40 countries attended. Many pictures are posted at www.cefc2006.com. 7. The section is also participated in the organization of the annual conference of the Applied Computational Electromagnetic Society (ACES 2006) March 12-16, 2006. 8. Nominated a number of members for elevation to senior member. The section will continue to be very active and will participate in many activities that benefit the members and enhance our interaction with the community. We will also continue to seek organizing conferences that will benefit our members and our profession.
