NC Council Report December 2006 All sections in NC continue to be active, some more so that others, but all are reporting activity to serve the local membership. One event of note was the awards banquet that was held in Asheville by the Western NC Section last week, which was another stellar example of honoring the section's outstanding members and volunteers. The NC Council last met at the R3 meetings in Atlanta in October. At that meeting, we firmed up plans for our leadership development workshop, which will be held in Charlotte on January 26-28, 2007. This weekend retreat, to be held near the Lowes Motor Speedway and Concord Mills Mall, will have activities for family members while we embark on a full schedule of leadership training. This retreat will be supported by the NC Council, the sections in the Council, and the LDO project with possible additional funding from other IEEE sources. This workshop will be open to any section in the region that wishes to participate; there will be some cost sharing required, but all are welcome. Expect an announcement region-wide in about a week. The NC Council hosted a career workshop for the IEEE-USA Career and Workforce Policy Committee on November 11 which was a success for both the attendees (high marks for the speakers) and a small financial success for the Council.
