Leadership Development Committee Report Leadership by Developing Others (LDO) Initiative Report December 2006 I have gotten some good feedback from the surveys that were returned at Atlanta and about the training that we did in Atlanta, both before the Region meetings and interspersed with the other meetings of the weekend. The LDO Initiative and its effect on LD training for R3 continues to grow. We will be transitioning from a 'training' mode to a 'train the trainer' mode in R3 as we will start in 2007 to add more 'trainer training' for the many IEEE volunteers in our region who are quite capable of (and probably in most cases superior at) providing the same training that I have been doing for the last few years, but at a more local level. The first true 'train the trainer' session will be the training blitz that I am already planning for the Friday before SoutheastCon 2007 in Richmond. Please make your early plans to be in Richmond on Friday AM, as every one of you will benefit from (and make use of) the new training resources that we will be rolling out then. There are two traditional training workshops planned - one in our region and one for another region (at their expense, of course). We will be holding a weekend-long leadership workshop, hosted by the NC Council in Charlotte, on January 26-28, 2007. This weekend retreat, to be held near the Lowes Motor Speedway and Concord Mills Mall, will have activities for family members while we embark on a full schedule of leadership training. This retreat will be supported by the NC Council, the sections in the Council, and the LDO project with possible additional funding from other IEEE sources. This workshop will be open to any section in the region that wishes to participate; there will be some cost sharing required, but all are welcome. Expect an announcement region-wide in about a week. I have also been asked to hold a retreat for Region 4 in Chicago. This is tentatively planned for the weekend of March 3, 2007. I hope by working with other regions that we can not only share our experience but can gain insight and further input from others. I anticipate a win-win experience from this for all of us. I will also be discussing how we can work with other regions to improve leadership development institute-wide in some upcoming meetings with staff and RAB leadership. As always, your input is needed, your participation is appreciated, and your service to the member is unparalleled!!!! Charles J. Lord, P.E. c.j.lord@ieee.org
