Introduction
The year 2007 has commenced with a positive start for the IEEE Jamaica Section.

The Officers and ExCom of the IEEE Jamaica Section, the Jamaica Chapters
of COMSOC, the Computer Society, and the Student Branch of the
University of Technology, (UTECH) are in place. Our reports (L50, L31s
and Current Officers) have been submitted.
 
University of the West Indies (UWI) Student Branch

The University of the West Indies Student Branch which was launched in
the year 2002 and participated in SoutheastCon April 5-7, 2002 has shown
interest in IEEE activities.

However there is no record of the School Code and they are not listed on
the Geographic Roster. Subsequently an e-mail has been received from
Laura J. Durrett, Manager IEEE Student Services with the University of
the West Indies (UWI) Student Branch School Code. Thanks to Dr. Eric S.
Ackerman for his assistance. The Section is making an effort to
reactivate this Student Branch.
 
Jamaica Section Activities - 2007 

January's monthly meeting took the form of a Retreat where a year long
programme of activities was planned however some are yet to be
confirmed. In addition a meeting was convened at UTECH, February 7, 2007
before our ExCom meeting to discuss IEEE benefits to a Power Engineering
group.

February 17, 2007 was our Annual Social which included students from the
UTECH and UWI Student Branches.
 
E-Conference Meetings

On January 22, 2007 the IEEE Jamaica Section Chair and Region 3 Area 9
Chair joined Region 3 EXCOM and participated in our first E-Conference
Meeting for the year. It is also our intention to participate in the
next Region 3 EXCOM E-Conference Meeting on March 12, 2007.

 

Website - IEEE Jamaica Section

Webmaster Milverton Moore continues to keep the website current and
provides valuable information for the Jamaica Section and Region 3. The
IEEE Jamaica Section Website serves as our newsletter and the URL is as
follows: https://www.ewh.ieee.org/r3/jamaica.
 
Jamaica Section 30th Anniversary

We have reserved November 24, 2007 as the date for our 30th Anniversary
Awards Banquet at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, Kingston, Jamaica.
 
SoutheastCon2007 Delegation
