Region 3 Director's Message March 12, 2007 SoutheastCon 2007 -- Plans are in place. Leadership Development training starts at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Rooms for the overflow attendees are available in a second hotel. The super-organized conference committee has been working down its list of 188 action items and promise us a great conference, student competitions, and Region meeting. Membership Development -- Lee Stogner and Jim Howard, plus IEEE staff, will be offering a day's training for MD chairs at SoutheastCon in Richmond. Please make sure your section takes advantage of it. If you don't have a MD chair, please appoint one. Information Reports -- Sections are urged to file electronic reports of their activities, which can be discussed at the Area/Council meetings on Friday evening. The same (or updated) reports will appear on the Information Agenda for the Sunday morning Region meeting. Please focus on problems and successes in your reports. We would like to distill section best practices from a compilation of the information you provide. If you have current problems you need help with from Region 3, please advise me to put your report on the Discussion Agenda for the Region meeting. Posting Section Reports -- Some sections are posting their Excom minutes and chapter reports on their web sites, where they are available in a long-term archive. By making Excom activities visible to other section members in this way, some additional volunteers may emerge for helping with section activities. IEEE is the world's largest professional technical organization that is largely volunteer-driven; we need new volunteers to carry the work forward. Region 3 Initiatives - As before, we will be reporting progress and brainstorming on the nine Region 3 initiatives identified to serve you better. Your ideas are gratefully received. Travel plans -- If you are traveling to SoutheastCon 2007, please be sure to include your travel plans in your registration information. See https://www.ewh.ieee.org/reg/3/excom/meetings/2007-03/index.html Travel safely. Looking forward to seeing you in Richmond!
