The Virginia Council has been in the recovery mode after SoutheastCon 2007. I believe the events in Blacksburg last April also adversely impacted our operations. I know that all my kids, while safe, were affected and our hearts go out to all our Virginia Mountain members as well as Hokies everywhere. I want personally thank Eric Ackerman with his kind consideration during the tragedy. We still have not confirmed that we have a Central Virginia Representative. Our other representatives have not been able to get things in gear: our officer report and L50 still have not been filed. We have closed the books on SoutheastCon, but we hope that we have left a record of our both our successes and opportunities for improvement that future SoutheastCon committees will find useful. Most of the record can be found on the IEEE Region 3 Forum. I also plan to press our sections to take advantage of the personal relationships and experience to use conferences as both revenue and professional development opportunities. My goal for the Council is to get it back to business supporting the needs of the sections. We have a number of challenges identified in Richmond that still need to be addressed.
