Area3 Report for September 2007 IEEE Excom 24 September 2007 Hello Everyone, Area3 consists of three sections in Georgia: Atlanta, Central Georgia, and Savannah. Most informational meetings in the Atlanta Section are hosted by one of its 13 chapters. The section includes a large variety of chapters including two special-interest (or affinity-group) chapters: GOLD and Consultants Networking. For more information please contact the section chair, Jim Remich chair@ieee-atlanta.org, or visit https://www.ieee-atlanta.org/. The Central Georgia Section is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Those in attendance at the SouthEastCon conference this spring will remember Central Georgia receiving its banner. The section includes Mercer University, which was well represented at SECON2007 in Richmond, VA. The May meeting was a Kalman Filter tutorial focused on the use of optimization theory for better measurements of the period of a simple pendulum. Randall D. Peters, PhD, Professor and Chairman of the Mercer University Physics Department presented the tutorial. The section also met at Ball Aerospace for a talk about Tesla Coils, AC and DC motors, and Westinghouse. For more information regarding the Central Georgia Section, please contact the section chair, Rick J. Noel rick.noel@robins.af.mil, or visit them on the web at: https://www.ewh.ieee.org/r3/central_georgia/. The Savannah Section includes approximately 200 members in the Savannah, Georgia coastal islands, and Hilton Head, SC area. The section has hosted meetings regularly during the winter and spring months and continues with a September meeting at Georgia Southern University. For more information regarding the Savannah section, please contact the section chair, Scott Hamlin s.hamlin@ieee.org or visit their website: https://ewh.ieee.org/r3/savannah/index.html Respectfully submitted, Chris Hardy Area 3 (GA) Chair
