A GOLD affinity group was created in 2007, a kick off networking dinner was well attended by the IEEE Officer staff and minorly attended by potential new members. The Memphis Section participated in the annual student science fair and gave Border's Book Certificate awards to 4 top participants within both the High School and Junior High School levels. The Section held it's first summer picinic and Shelby Farms in August. Section meetings were held at local universities including Arkansas State University (ASU), University of Memphis (UofM), and Christian Brother's University (CBU) to introduce the Section to the students. Initial discussions and meetings were held with UofM and CBU regarding group hosting of an S-PAC. As many Sections in the Region, we continue to be challenged with low active membership, although we have had increased internet traffic due to the monthly newsletters.
