To: Region 3 ExCom Cc: Region 3 Committee Fr: David Green, Region 3 ECSC Sb: Electronic Communications Systems Coordinator Report Dt: 19 Jan 2008 Members of the ExCom list who are listed as "xyz@ieee.org" on the list, but who are unable (or unwilling) to send as "xyz@ieee.org" but rather are using an address like "rst@isp.com" may self-register this as a "sending address" for the list by 1. Go to https://listserv.ieee.org/lservreq/ 2. Log in with your IEEE Web Account Information 3. In the left box of the form, list "r3-excom2008" as a "Listname" 4. List your desired sending address(es) in the right box of the form 5. Hit "Submit Request" Your "sending address" should now be registered. This will eliminate the need to moderate your own posting to the list server. The OUMgt project continues its first development in beta form: OUMgt.Meetings which helps prepare a meeting announcement for their web site and for other reuse (such as listing in MyIEEE, filing the L31, etc.) The system is still being developed with new features being added approximately monthly. The Alabama Section in Region 3 was the first beta site and you can visit their web site at https://www.eng.uab.edu/ieeea . The information about section meetings on their front page is derived from the OUMgt database and the page rendered when one follows the link is render from that site. This is a project sponsored by IEEE Regional Activities with broad support and participation. Students from UAB have participated in many stages of this activity as several students from University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Bill Ratcliff and I are members of this project team. The electronic services used by IEEE volunteers includes E-mail, mailing lists, Newsgroups, Web services, TWiki Site, IRC, eNotice, Blogs, aliases, BaseCamp, Region 3 OnLine Community, teleconference services, Internet Meeting Server, and as well as experimental capabilities like richer conferencing environments and collaboration services such as Skype and Gizmo. We are considering which services to retire (and which to add) to make sure we provide appropriate support for Region 3 activities. We have purchased a replacement for the Region 3 Server (ie3col.eng.uab.edu) and will be working to deploy it over the next month or so, we will be making decisions as to which services to migrate and which to retire. Bill Clayton's report will give further information about Skype/Gizmo Collaboration effort.
