19 Jan 2008   To:  R3 EXCOM From: Butch Shadwell Subj:  Member Life Cycle Model (Flat World Study)   At the fall meeting of the Region 3 Committee there was a special breakout session entitled “Membership Life Cycle Models”. Since the objectives of this committee were essentially a superset of those of the Flat World Study Group, Director Elect Ratcliff proposed that they efforts be merged into one study group. The overarching objective of this new group is to identify the various phases of a member’s professional life in order to determine the best ways that the IEEE may be of value as the needs of the member change. Clearly the “Flat World” phenomenon is, and increasingly will be, a key influence on those needs.   At the breakout session, several important paradigm shifts were suggested for further study: – Capture educational/professional/economic/social/ cultural parameters of each group/phase – Grow individuals’ entrepreneurial mindset – Recursive development and update process – Cooperative & collaborative environment   Immediate goals include: – Develop template to be used for soliciting input • First draft of template to be completed by SoutheastCon 2008 • Self examination • Education and Training • Human Systems Design criteria • Provide insight to our members’ interests, to aid Member Development • Could potentially result in formation of new types of Affinity Groups   Respectfully submitted,   Butch Shadwell R3 Member Life Cycle Modeling Committee Butch Shadwell Tel. 904-223-4465 (USA) www.shadtechserv.com
