Charlotte Section Report for April 2008 Region 3 Meeting

Issues requiring action by the Region 3 Committee or ExCom

  - SoutheastCon 2010 Proposal by NC Council and Charlotte Section
       The Charlotte Section along with the NC Council
       has submitted a proposal for SoutheastCon 2010

Opportunities for Engaging the member, volunteer, non member

  - Looking into re-establishment of scholarship activities
  - Plan to send chair to Sections Congress
  - Strong support of students to encourage new members
  - Newsletter and website activities
  - Technical and social meetings

Notable section activities (positive and negative)

  - Meetings:
    The Charlotte section has 5 technical meetings scheduled in
    March, 4 technical meetings in April, and is planning
    2 social events in April/May.

  - Support of Student Chapter:
    The Charlotte Section provides significant financial support
    for student participation in SoutheastCon 2008, absorbing
    most of the cost of transportation.

  - Website:
    Updated according to new IEEE website templates.
    Historical information on 1929 origins of Charlotte Section
    added to website.

  - Newsletter:
    The section is in process of reviving newsletter mailings
    to try to reach members blocked by email filters.

  - Look into resolving/identifying possible scholarship
    commitments
