IEEE Region 3 Leadership Development and Regional Support Committee Report March 24, 2008 There is not a lot of new activity to report since the report of last month. Other than the VA Council training workshop that was held in January, no other workshops have been scheduled yet, with the exception of the following: The NC Council has requested me to put together a proposal for a weekend workshop to be held this Summer at the NC Coast. This would be in the same general format as the previous NC workshops that were held at the Biltmore Estate and at Myrtle beach in 1999 and 2001 respectively. I have tentatively identified a site in Nags Head, NC on the Outer Banks and a tentative date of July 11-13, 2008. This will be presented to the NC Council at their meeting in Huntsville. What is unique in this workshop is that the leadership workshop, intended for training current and prospective leaders in local and area IEEE positions, will also be the model and 'dry run' for a professional development workshop to be hosted by the NC Council at the same location in the early Fall. As the NCC is working to become a registered provider of professional development hours (PDH) with the board of PE licensing, this should be an attractive event for the PE's in the state. This would of course also be a PACE project and we will be working with IEEE-USA in the development (and possible seed money) of this project. In regional support, we have not received any further requests for support for struggling sections or subsections other than the Lower Cape Fear Subsection in NC. If your section is struggling due to low volunteerism, lack of program material, or low attendance at meetings, contact me and we will work together to get your section vitalized and members engaged!
