R3 Director Elect May Region 3 Membership Report Region 3, It's been a while since the Terminator ran and I need to check on the progress of your local arrears campaign. To support your efforts at the Section level, earlier I sent a spreadsheet of members that are in "arrears" by Section. Hopefully you have used this data to contact these members within your own Section and encouraged them to renew and participate in our IEEE activities. It's through participation that our members will receive the full benefits of IEEE membership. I've also attached a data sheet that you can use as an aid when discussing the value of IEEE membership with your members. The IEEE MD Manual contains sample letters that can be used when contacting members that are in arrears. You may use SAMIEEE on a ongoing basis during your membership recovery to generate reports on your local membership. We have a monthly SAMIEEE question / answer session to help anyone that needs to better utilize the member database. Information on SAMIEEE is always available via the Virtual Community at, https://www.ieeecommunities.org/samieee To be successful in 2008, we need to have a complete team of MD Chairs through out Region 3. As of today, (May 19), the IEEE database still shows the following Region 3 Sections without a MD Chair, Evansville - Owensboro Section Louisville Section Mobile Section Central North Carolina Section Charlotte Section Coastal South Carolina Section Columbia Section Canaveral Section Jacksonville Section Virginia Mountain Section Please try to fill these positions as soon as possible, we have a lot to do this year and a strong base of membership is critical to what we can do. As an idea for where you can find a strong volunteer for Membership Development, look to your local GOLD organization. For 2008, the GOLD's have made a promise to fill any unfilled MD Chair positions. Let me know if you need help connecting with the GOLD Team. For those of you that are new to Membership Development, we have built two online resources that are full of materials that you can use for your own education as well as training for your local IEEE entity. These two resources are, 1. The Membership Volunteer Web Page at, https://www.ieee.org/web/volunteers/membership_dev/index.html The IEEE MD Manual can be downloaded from the volunteer web page. 2. The Membership Development Virtual Community at, https://www.ieeecommunities.org/ieee.md.net Lastly, don't forget that Region 3 has built a unique Membership benefit, it's our own Employment Assistance web page at, https://ewh.ieee.org/reg/3/ea/ Let me know your Membership Development questions and how we can help you grow your IEEE Section, Chapter or Branch. Thanks, Lee Stogner Region 3 Director Elect 2008 - 2009 Email l.stogner @ ieee.org P.S. The next monthly Membership Web Cast is on June 21. Please mark your calendar and participate in a forum of membership volunteers from all over the world.
