IEEE SoutheastCon 2010 Report for May 2008 Region 3 ExCom Meeting

Jim Conrad and Charles Lord are discussing and solidifying the contract with the
proposed hotel (Embassy Suites). We hope to have the contract sent of to IEEE HQ
in a few months for final negotiation and approval. Of interest is the cost of
the hotel facilities if we choose to have the Saturday awards dinner at Lowes
Motor Speedway with the possibility of some people (i.e. student contest winners
and randomly chosen attendees of the dinner) getting rides in race cars around
the track.

Since the "NASCAR Race Weeks" are in full swing in Charlotte, we have been unable
to continue conversations with the hotel and speedway until after the Memorial
Day Race.

Some documents have been posted to the R3 IEEE Communities site, and we intend on
posting all documents there as we progress.

A project schedule will be developed this summer and made available to the
Region.

Grayson Randall has been assigned the task of chair of a small committee to
determine the hardware contest concept. A student team will then help formulate
the rules and demonstrate the concept during SoutheastCon 2009.
