R3 SoutheastCon 2010 Report (December 2008) We had our latest meeting on Saturday, December 6. Planning is progressing well. The hotel contract has been signed by IEEE HQ and the hotel. Rooms will be $149 a night (plus tax) with up to 6 person occupancy for student rooms. Rooms include free breakfast and a free manager’s reception. We will also have free internet throughout most of the hotel (conference area and individual rooms). We will use about 32,000 sq feet of the hotel’s 42,000 sq. feet of meeting space for all activities. If our activities need more space, we are able to rent additional meeting rooms. The committee is urging that the formal R3 meeting be shorter so that R3 volunteers have ample opportunity to visit student competitions and attend technical presentations. A call for papers is complete and will be published in the R3 newsletter and our website soon. The hardware contest has been scoped and will not require as much mechanical engineering effort as previous contests. Several different ECE disciplines will be needed to complete a contest entry. Universities should not discard their green carpets they are using for the 2009 contest – it will likely be needed for 2010! -----------------------------------------------------------------
