Area 9 Report for February 23, 2009 Region 3 ExCom e-Conference  
 
Introduction

The year 2009 has commenced with a positive start for the IEEE Jamaica Section.
 
The Officers and ExCom of the IEEE Jamaica Section, the Jamaica Chapter of the Computer
Society, and the Student Branches of the University of Technology, (UTECH) and the
University of the West Indies (UWI) are in place. Our reports (L50, L31s, Current Officers,
Committee and Chapter Chairs) have been submitted. The current Officers are: Daniel
Tulloch-Reid - Chair, Winston Smith - Vice Chair, Sheldon Smith – Secretary, and David H.
Miller – Treasurer.
 
University of the West Indies (UWI) Student Branch The University of the West Indies Student
Branch which was launched in the year 2002 and participated in SoutheastCon April 5-7, 2002
was reactivated this month with the appropriate officers elected.
 
Jamaica Section Activities - 2009

January’s monthly meeting took the form of a Retreat and activities were planned for the
year however some are yet to be confirmed.
 
For February’s monthly general meeting we held our Annual IEEE Jamaica Section Social where
new and old members were able to meet, exchange and present ideas in a relaxed and enjoyable
atmosphere. Student branch members and guests that have supported the Section were also in
attendance.
 
E-Conference Meetings

Since 2008 the IEEE Jamaica Section Chair and Region 3 Area 9 Chair have joined Region 3
EXCOM and participated in all the E-Conference Meetings to date. It is also our intention to
participate in the next Region 3 EXCOM E-Conference Meeting on February 23, 2009.

Webmaster Milverton Moore continues to keep the website current and provides valuable
information for the Jamaica Section and Region 3. The IEEE Jamaica Section Website serves as
