To: Region 3 Committee / ExCom Fr: David Green, Region 3 Secretary Sb: Secretary's Report Dt: 5 December 2009 I thank Region 3 and ExCom members who have submitted their reports prior to the meetings according to the guidelines posted on the web. These reports are posted to the web linked with the agenda. These written reports when read provide an important communication function for the region and its members. This will also serve as the archival mechanism. Since 1998, the Region 3 ExCom meeting announcements, agendas, and minutes have been posted to the web under the structure https://ewh.ieee.org/reg/3/excom/meetings . Under this space is a directory yyyy-mm or yyyy-m1m2 (yyyy is year, mm is month, m1m2 is month 1 and month 2 if the meeting spanned the boundary between months). I am completing my service as Region 3 Secretary. I have served as Secretary for 6 Directors (Caston, Riddle, Howard, Harrison, McClure, and Ratcliff). Together with the many other volunteers in Region 3, we have continued Region 3's tradition of the experimenting region that leads and shares with the other regions as IEEE evolves. It is clear that this tradition is as strong as ever. Thanks to Bill Ratcliff for his leadership these last two years. He has been one of the strong lights of MGA's member engagement vision and has collaborated at all levels to rationalize how this vision fits within IEEE. Good luck to Lee Stogner as he begins his term next month. He has already been attending IEEE Board meetings as Director-elect for 2 years (as well as his other service to the Institute) so he will hit the ground running. I also want to specially thank Charles Hickman who has served as Region 3 Treasurer for the same 6 Directors. He has done a great job -- keeping Region 3 Finances in order as "us other volunteers" innovate at times other than when the budget is created. He led the way with Concentration banking for all GeoUnits and is still coordinating new tools for GeoUnit treasurers. Charles has also been available to bounce ideas off of, review early copies of agenda/minutes, motions, etc. and his input was invaluable. Thanks to everyone for the commitment you have made towards making IEEE a valuable member-driven organization! I have enjoyed working with you all and look forward to other efforts together in the future. Dave -- David G. Green d.green @ ieee.org IEEE Region 3 Secretary (98-09)
