To: Region 3 ExCom Fr: David G. Green, Region 3 Director-Elect Sb: Director-Elect's Report for March ExCom and Region Meeting Dt: 3 March 2010 I am looking forward to seeing everyone at SoutheastCon 2010. I hope you have made your travel plans, booked your hotel room in the conference hotel, and registered as a Region 3 attendee at the conference. I know that Jim Conrad and his team have been working hard to ensure that attendees will benefit greatly from their participation in the conference. Please find the time to thank them and the sponsors who are helping to support the conference. Repeating an item from my last report, I would like to visit several of the Area/Councils this year (and others next year) in coordination with Director Stogner's own travel and plans. I think it is important that these contacts occur. I would like to maximize the value of my visits so it would be good to be able to both visit with Council members as well as attend one of the section meetings at the same time if that is possible. For areas without councils, I would suggest that we meet and together attend one of the section meetings. If you are interested and/or have other ideas on how this would be useful -- please let me know. I have heard from two areas thus far -- thanks. Status of Goals for 2010: * Finish the migration of duties accumulated while Region 3 Secretary to the new secretary or others as appropriate - Mostly complete. * Visit at least four Area/Councils - Received two invitations, awaiting approval of 2010 budget * Actively participate on Region 3 Committee, the ExCom, and Region 3 Committees as appropriate and required - Continuing * In support of and in coordination with Director Stogner and the 2010 Region 3 Goals and Objectives, enable and encourage Region 3 committees to be effective in fulfilling their charter. - Continuing As an action report for 2010 thus far, I have * Attended IEEE Board Series in Atlanta (MGA, IEEE-USA, IEEE BoD) * Participated in two Region 3 Communications Committee electronic meetings * Assisted Secretary Vaughn in start up activities * Completed efforts to migrate mailing list ownership to content owners and/or Communications Chair Clayton * Collaborated with SPC Chair Riddle on the Operations Manual revisions * Assisted Director Stogner as requested Now is the time of year when IEEE is trying to complete its financial report for the year. After that, IEEE is audited and after that, it files it's IRS tax return. The Region, Section and Chapter financial performance are rolled up into this report so it is critical that the staff receive reports from all units by the deadline. Please make sure your unit (and those you support) have submitted all the reports that are needed. Let's get Region 3 to the 100% reported milestone well in advance of the 31 March deadline. Thanks to all for your efforts on this.
